Thanks for your question. With a night guard or retainer, most people get somewhere between 6 months and 3 years out of one, depending on how much you wear it and how heavily you bite or grind. Heavier grinders wear through a guard faster. Whatever its age, replace it straight away if you notice visible damage, if it no longer feels like it fits, or if it has picked up an odour or discolouration, which is a sign of bacteria build-up. For sports mouthguards the advice is every season or roughly every 6 months, and more often for anyone under 25 while the jaw is still growing.
